Our compensation plan is one of the most generous in the industry, rewarding distributors for hard work, long-term commitment and leadership. In fact, approximately 42 percent of product sales come back to the distributor force as commissions.
In 2005, we paid approximately $480 million in commissions to our distributors. These commissions are in addition to any retail markup our distributors earn when they sell products to their customers.
Also, because our compensation plan is seamless, it enables our approximately 800,000 distributors to build sales organizations among our three product categories globally and get paid in one check in local currency. This allows distributors to focus on one opportunity while generating volume through product purchases from the other product categories. In addition, our compensation plan allows distributors to look beyond their country's borders and establish business contacts in more than 45 international markets. Ultimately, through our seamless compensation plan, entrepreneurs are empowered to improve their financial freedom and security.
